In collaboration with the National Cherry Blossom Foundation, the Department of Parks and Recreation is inviting you to fly a kite right in your neighborhood. 

DPR Park Ambassadors will host kite decorating and provide FREE KITES! (While supplies last. One kite per resident.)

The Friends of Oxon Run are hosting their annual Oxon Run PINKnic on SUNDAY, MARCH 27 from Noon - 3 PM which will also have kites!

Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

In collaboration with the National Cherry Fund, the Department of Parks and Recreation is inviting you to keep a great tradition alive.

Every year, thousands flock to the National Mall and scenic parks throughout the District to gaze upon the yearly bloom of the city's cherry blossoms and fly a kite on a windy day. 

Although there is no official kite flying event taking place this year, you can still enjoy the day by flying your kite on in your own neighborhood and sharing your experience on social media.

#DPRKitesandBlossoms 

 Although the National Mall is the most popular venue for this event with the highest concentration of cherry blossoms, you can avoid the big crowds and have a great day of kite flying at one of our DPR parks or facilities:

Featured DPR Sites with Cherry Blossoms include: 

153 trees at Oxon Run Park, Langdon Park (73), Rose Park (29), Garfield Park (22), Kingman and Heritage Island (18), Takoma Community Center (17), Friendship Recreation Center (14), Chevy Chase Recreation Center (11), and Petworth Recreation Center (10).

1) Never fly near powerlines or electricity….always look up before you launch

2) Never fly around little children and families, people who are not kite flying

3) Don’t fly close to a road

4) The wind is your friend, fly within recommended wind conditions

5) Only fly when skies are clear, stormy weather is not appropriate
